WATE: Development continues along Ebenezer Road as residents voice traffic concerns

Updated: Jun 13

EXCERPT:

A stretch of roadway between Northshore Drive and Kingston Pike is seeing a lot of growth, like much of Knox County. Ebenezer Road was mainly lined with homes and subdivisions. Now, more commercial properties are popping up along the road with additional housing as the area continues to grow.

One homeowner told 6 News they moved to the area several years ago because, at the time, it was a quiet area.

Some of the newest additions to Ebenezer Road include Crescent Shops at Ebenezer Road and Westland, the Bexhill shopping area, new apartments, and a newer subdivision near Bluegrass Elementary School. Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission is also hearing plans for a Weigle’s Convenience store at the corner of Ebeneezer and Westland. Like some homeowners in the area, Brazier says he is against some of the developments.

"I’m not really thrilled about it. That’s one of the reasons why we built here, it’s more residential, there’s not the commercial stuff,” Brad Brazier explained. “We have a little bit of commercial with Bexhill development happening in the last few years and kind of the K-Brew area right there at Westland, but those aren’t extremely high traffic like a gas station would be.”

Brazier told 6 News on top of the constant traffic in the area as more people move in, speeding is a big issue along Ebenezer Road. He said some people use the road as a drag strip of sorts, leading up to Bluegrass Elementary School.
